More information on the Report

Emissions Gap Report is one of UNEP’s flagship products, is a scientific assessment of the so-called 'emissions gap' – the gap between anticipated emission levels in 2030, compared to levels consistent with a 2°C / 1.5° target. It is a yearly assessment of national pledges, which this year takes form of 'Nationally Determined Contributions' (NDC) agreed to at COP21 in Paris. The objective of this report is to assess the size of the emissions gap, as well as opportunities for bridging the gap, focusing on key sectors and relevant policy instruments. In this year's report the focus areas are on assessing emissions reduction potentials for 2030 and measures to close the gap such as the role of short lived climate pollutant, the phasing out of coal, and carbon dioxide removal.
